Overview

Reimagined learning experience.

I led a full UX/UI redesign that reimagined the experience from first click to course completion. Despite constraints from Moodle infrastructure and multiple content providers, we delivered a playful, personalized learning platform that increased engagement, course sign-ups and significantly improved completion rates.

The Challenge
The SBA’s e-learning platform was performing badly - low traffic, high dropout rates, poor usability, and little visibility from the main site. The site was built on Moodle infrastructure which created design and dev constraints. On top of that, we needed to balance the needs of the SBA stakeholders, external Moodle dev team, and third-party education content creators.

Reviewing the existing platform, we identified major usability bugs, pain areas and missed opportunities. We benchmarked leading e-learning experiences to guide our ideation and design strategy. Our research findings and insights led to a completely redesigned UX concept, which we prototyped and tested with real users.

Friendly and immersive.

One of our main goals was to create a more engaging learning experience, therefore, we created a new brand aesthetic that is inviting and playful. We redefined tone of voice to encourage progress and returns. Ran iterative QA rounds with dev team to ensure design fidelity and readiness for launch.

Design Solution

Maximum focus, minimum distractions.

We created an immersive, distraction-free learning experience that supported a variety of content formats - videos, ppt slides, pdf templates, and more. The design emphasized seamless transitions between different media types, allowing users to stay engaged regardless of material format.

Design Solution

Personalization and gamification.

Personalization features like view settings, notes, progress indicators, gave users a sense of ownership and continuity. Simplified onboarding and friendly microcopy lowered the barrier to entry. A fresh, playful visual language combined with subtle gamification (prompts, badges, etc) helped keep users motivated and returning.

The redesigned platform directly addressed usability issues, resulting in boosted sign-ups, retention and completion - making learning feel accessible, rewarding and worth coming back for, all within the constraints of Moodle.
